After Hours Activities (AHA!) at Ruffing

AHA! is an active after school enrichment program offered to currently enrolled Ruffing students in 3rd Year Children’s House and Extended Day through Grade 8.

AHA! complements our After Care program and offers students a wide variety of enrichment opportunities during after school hours. Families seeking additional after school programming may register their children for the classes listed below.

Students registered for full-time After Care and All Day Children’s House receive 50% reduction for one AHA! class each fall and winter. Individual music lessons, Tae Kwon Do, and Snapology Legos® require full fees.

GENERAL INFORMATION

DATES:

FALL SESSION of AHA! begins the week of September 18, 2017.

WINTER SESSION of AHA! begins the week of January 22, 2018.

AHA! follows the school calendar. If there is no school, there is no AHA! If snow days occur, a make-up class will be offered. If a make-up class cannot be scheduled by the instructor, families will receive a credit.

 

TIMES:

*Most AHA! group classes repeat for 12 weeks, from 3:15 – 4:30 pm.
Students attending AHA! may be picked up at the main entrance at 4:30 pm.

*Tuesday Moving Making, an exception, runs two hours with pick up at 5:30 pm.
Music lessons run 30 minutes each between 3-6 pm. Parents are responsible for dropping off and picking up children from individual music lessons.

 

INDIVIDUAL MUSIC LESSONS

Families enrolling in private music lessons will schedule directly with the instructors once online registrations are received. Number and frequency of lessons are determined with the instructor. We recommend weekly lessons through the school year. Students in Guitar or String lessons are responsible for renting or bringing their own instrument. The first class will not require an instrument.


PIANO
& GUITAR 

Extended Day, Third-Year All Day Children’s House through Grade 8

Fall, Winter & Summer Session: 
Monday-Friday, $30 per half hour 3-6 pm

For students who would like to learn how to play piano or guitar, or to continue in already established practice, 30-minute lessons are offered. You may rent or bring your own guitar. A Guitar, Piano and String recital complete the end of the year. These lessons have the option of being extended through the summer.

STRINGS

Extended Day, Third-Year All Day Children’s House through Grade 8

Fall, Winter & Summer Session: 
Tuesday-Thursday, $30 per half hour 3:15-6 pm

For students who would like to learn how to play the violin, viola, or cello, or to continue in already established practice, 30-minute lessons are offered. You may rent or bring your own instrument. A Guitar, Piano and String recital complete the end of the year. These lessons have the option of being extended through the summer.

GROUP CLASSES


ARCHERY

Upper Elementary and Middle School — 10 Classes $200

Fall Session: 
Monday, September 18 – December 4

Learn fundamental shooting form, scoring, archery terms and safety procedures. Practice your skills in a supervised environment for participation in the annual Ruffing tournament.

AROUND THE WORLD WITH RICE

Extended Day, Third-Year All Day Children’s House, Lower Elementary — 12 Classes $265

Fall Session: Wednesday, September 20 – December 13
Winter Session: Wednesday, January 24 – April 25

Did you know that September is Nation Rice Month? Come travel the world of rice and discover rice cuisine from a different country each week. Explore local culture, traditions, art and celebrations as you taste your way around the world.

HISPANIC WORLD

Lower Elementary — 12 Classes $265

Fall Session: Tuesday, September 19 – December 5
Winter Session: Tuesday, January 23 – April 24

Learn the culture of Latin countries through fun games, songs, traditional dances, and cooking special dishes from these magnificent countries! One rule: Aquí solo se habla español (here, we speak only Spanish)!

KIDS YOGA

Extended Day, Third-Year All Day Children’s House, Lower Elementary — 12 Classes $240

Fall Session: Tuesday, September 19 – December 5

Winter Session: Tuesday, January 23 – April 24

Open up your children to the wonderful world of yoga at an early age! Yoga is a great way to build self-respect and to develop confidence, concentration and reduce stress. Because children sometimes encounter emotional, social, and physical challenges or conflicts, a dedicated, intentional and fun yoga practice that includes breathing techniques, focus, and physical postures can be a very valuable tool in their lives.

LET’S MAKE A MOVIE!

Upper Elementary — 6 Classes $240/per 6-week session

Fall Session
Tuesday: MOVIE #1 — September 19 – October 24
Tuesday: MOVIE #2 — October 30 – December 5

Winter Session
Tuesday: MOVIE #1 — January 23 – February 27
Tuesday: MOVIE #2 — April 3 – May 8

Each semester, we will run two consecutive, two-hour classes from 3:30 – 5:30 pm. Each six-week session, we write, act, shoot and edit a new movie.

PLAYFUL EXPLORATIONS

Extended Day, Third-Year All Day Children’s House, Lower Elementary — 12 Classes $240

Fall Session: Thursday,  September 21 – December 14
Winter Session: Thursday, January 25 – May 12

Theatre games, a grab bag of props and costumes plus creative energy work together to let students explore all the strange and wonderful characters inside them. All the world is our stage. Come find who you want to be!

ROCK WALL

Lower Elementary through Middle School — 5 Classes $100

Winter Session: 
Monday, January 22 – February 26

Learn climbing, traversing, knots, climbing commands, safety procedures and proper technique. Build upper and lower body strength while improving rock climbing skills in a supervised, encouraging environment. Climbing equipment is provided but comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes are required.

SNAPOLOGY of CLEVELAND LEGOS®

Extended Day, Third-Year All Day Children’s House through Upper Elementary
12 Classes $240

Fall Session: Wednesday, September 20 – December 13
Winter Session: Wednesday, January 24 – April 25

FALL: Snapology Engineer and Scientist students will learn through play in this fun LEGO program! They will explore simple and complex machines and build with gears, axles and motors. Students will engage in concepts from astronomy, earth science, and biology as they create ecosystems and habitats using LEGO bricks. Students work with a partner in stations and choose lessons and activities based on their interests.

WINTER: Snapology students will learn through play in this fun LEGO program! Instructors will introduce students to the world of robotics. Students will work in teams to create interactive and mechanical models inspired by adventures. Students will build robotic animals and more using LEGO bricks and easy-to-learn software! Students work with a partner in stations, and choose lessons and activities based on their interests.

TAE KWON DO

Lower Elementary through Middle School

Fall Session: Wednesday, September 20 – December 13 — 12 Classes $290
Fall Session: Friday: September 22 – December 15 — 10 Classes $250
Fall Session: Wednesday & Friday, September 20 – December 15 — 22 Classes $490

Winter Session: Wednesday, January 24 – April 25 — 12 Classes $290

Winter-Spring Session: Wednesday & Friday, January 24 – April 27 — 22 Classes $490

This Korean Martial Art will improve strength, stamina, flexibility and concentration while children practice blocking techniques and self defense. Students may progress to earn a belt.

Tae Kwon Do is offered twice weekly to provide more flexibility to families and an opportunity for additional training to interested students. Students may register for either the Wednesday or Friday class or both. Students attending both classes may test for belt promotion more often each year than those attending one class per week.

Note: The belt promotion fee of $50 is included in the class cost, but will be deducted from your tuition if your child does not test at the end of a semester. Tae Kwon Do students are required to have a dobok (uniform) which may be purchased from T&T Martial Arts for $40.
